Well...a few reasons. The first being necessity. The only place to put a steering damper on the V is up under the dash unless you want to drill the frame and add a rivnut, which I'm good with but down the road a potential buyer might not be. In the case of the former, the oil cooler is right in the way and is easy to remove. Doing so also offers up a bracket with an empty hole just itching to be filled with a steering damper mounting point. Why add a damper? Because the track event I would like to participate in requires a damper. But oh my god won't it over heat? Nah, the V is overcooled a bit in stock trim. Unless I intend to ride two up with baggage in Arizona in the summer, the stock cooling system will do just fine at keeping temps down; it barely gets up to operating temperature now in cool weather. Other than that, no reason, I've never had tank slap on a properly setup bike with good tires so I don't think it's a necessity, just a precaution. Thx
