    Hello all;

I love my 2000 VFR800, but I'm looking to add a gently used Wing or ST, FJR, etc for some long distance rides. The wife thinks I should only have the one bike, and doesn't see the need for more than one.

Do I need to correct her flawed way of thinking  or does everyone use the viffer for coast-to-coast and everyday local?

    This should be fun:smile:

Wives never understand these things. Having riden all the bikes except the wing I would say the ST is definitely better for the real long hall stuff than the VFR but you can still eat big distances on a viffer but not with quite the same level of confort. Overall I would say the ST is better than the FJR for the long haul. The FJR is a little more sports orientated than the ST but the comfort isn't as good, especially wind protection. Great engine on the FJR though, loads of power. I can't bring myself to try the couch, sorry goldwing, it just seems to much to me. I like to feel the ride. In a perfect world I would probably have a VFR and an ST. The ST is a bit big and heavy for city use but at highway speed you hardly notice it. Not exactly flipable but pretty good considering the weight.

    Thanks for feedback Grinder.

They think its like a car, you know one size fits all. My uncle rides a wing and loves it. I think it might be overkill, but then for 2 up you can't beat it

good luck explaining that one. they either get it or they don't. my wife said before we got married I could buy as many motorcycles as I wanted and I pretty much do, but she still doesn't get it. she does understand needing a different bike for dirt action, though.

My wife went out and got a $10K ring, I said that's a motorcycle on you finger. Honey pot is off limits for a while, man I never learn.

The most I've owned @ one time was 5 including a quad + a snowmobile. My wives past & present plus a series of girlfreinds & fiance's in between have never understood it. But pretty much let me do what ever I wanted as long as I could afford it w/o affecting the bottom line much. Currently I just have my old 86' VFR & a sled; I'm going to be hard pressed in the spring though because it's going to be a toss up between a newer bike or a newer SUV. Right now I leaning towards the SUV seeing as how my current one is nearing 200K & has become opinionated & ornery w/ age.

The first 'extra' one is the most difficult. I always liked the statement "You can only ride one a time". Now I've got 10 motorcycles, the last two only got me a shake of her head when I told her what I was planning. Stick with it, the pain is worthwhile.

I completely understand, I could have bought a new bike every 2-3 years for the amount of money I've spent on diamonds in the last 15 years. For what I shelled out for my last wedding I could have bought any Harley they had on the show room floor @ the local dealer. I think someone welded the lid on to my honey pot, only been married 4 months!?! I'm thinking the $40K I'm out could have bought some affection once a week or so for the next couple of years; Oh well one of these day I'll learn to start thinking with the right head

One day my wife told me I should have one or two more. I nearly fell over in surprise!

Been looking at a '99 Daytona at the Suzuki dealer and I'd love to add an F2/3 or Ninja 250 to the mix.

    Second that!

I've always found it easier to seek forgiveness afterward than permission beforehand.

I know from personal experience and that of others that any couple must accept the hobbies, passions, obsessions, etc of their partner. If someone wants another 20 motorcycles, that's their choice, not the partners. A copuple must accept each others "flaws" or they are on the road to divorce. Right after we got married, my wife said "You can't have a motorcycle. I don't like them and you aren't going to buy one." There was one in my driveway less than 24 hours later. Today was our 10th aniversary. I let her know right quick she has no right to tell me what I can or can't do just as I don't do the same to her. Everyone needs to be their own person or it's the road to being "whipped" for you.

    KC-10 FE out...

Me and the wife have been going on almost 20 years together, and all I can say is marriage is about compromise, the way it seems to go in my family is I'll buy a fun toy usually motorcycle related, and when it's her turn she will always pick a European or Caribbean vacation, because that's what she lives for. But for me it always has to make financial sense since I hate and will not go in to debt, except for that 1098

Personally I think myself lucky the missus allows me the one bike I have, its only my sad looks at bikes as they go by that made her order me to get another when I was last between bikes...

The VFR is the only bike I need as it does distance and twisties with equal competence although would probably think a little at riding it much more than 750miles a day when crossing a continent.

Funny... our 20th Anniversary was a few months ago and I replaced her original wedding ring with a new one and I said the same thing! Got nothing but stink-eye for a while. Then she said, "Two bikes... one new ring... let's settle the score!" I'm staying quiet for a while!

Hey - I do not have a wife because I want to be happy. Seriously though I am up to three bikes myself and it comes down to having time to ride, time to do maintenance, cost and space. I have my VFR, a Suzuki Intruder and an Old 1983 GoldWing Aspencade. I love the ole GoldWing and yeah it is a big couch on two wheels (really weird thing is on the highway at 70 - 80mph crusing speed, the bike reminds me of the VFR - maybe it is a Honda characteristic) . A couple of ladies I date occasionally have gone out on rides with me on the GoldWing and will not ride on another bike afterwards. I would suggest seeing if you can find a friend with a GoldWing or a Dealership that will let you do a test ride on a GoldWIng and take your wife out. Once she rides on the GoldWing with the air suspension and the plush comfort the bikes offers she may see why you want it for long hauls. Good Luck!!!

Wow I sure got some interesting replies. I do feel lucky to have my present bike. I'll keep working on her, maybe I can play the easier to ask forgiveness than permission card. After 17 years of marriage, I'm entitled to one big screwup.

Live To Ride, and Ride to Live:smile:
