Wife asked me what is wrong with synthetic oil. What answer do I give her?

Tell her it's dangerous stuff and she should send it all to me.:biggrin:

 

Some say natural feels better. Others say if they can touch them, they're not fake.

 

what is the difference anyway (i know its a beaten up subject around here). the only substantial thing iv really herd is it lasts longer. no real proformance increase either way.

I may change to synthetic since im going to be riding around 4k miles a month.

 

Tell her you don't like it too slippery...

 

Is the oil for her or for the bike?

 

Tell her its the best, it lasts longer, has more stamina and doesnt mind getting dirty.....but its much more expensive .

Or tell her be quiet and go make me a sammich and get me a beer.

Additive package does not break down as readily as Dino oil and synthetics offer several more choices in automotive oils (brands/weights, etc.) which do not include "energy conserving" additives (not good for wet clutches). If you stay with dino oils which are not specifically formulated for motorcycles you're almost limited to diesel oil. Automotive synthetic is probably less costly than motorcycle specific dino.

 

as far as the wet clutch goes. what should I be buying?

 

Look at the API symbol on the back of the bottle, if it says "energy conserving" it has additives which can actually cause your clutch plates to slip so just make sure to buy an oil that does not have those two words in the API circle.

 

In my experience it's hard to beat Shell Rotella-T synthetic, the blue one gallon jug is available at any Wal Mart.

 

Isent there special motorcycle oil?

 

Of course, the choice is yours and the opinions many.

as long as it's not cheap Chinese synthetic oil, good to go. Only buy synthetic oil from USA, Japan or Germany.
