Maybe it's 'cause you bought a bike that was only available for one year? Just sayin'...

If it runs and everything else is good I'd say it's worth $500. You can always go take a look at it and see if he'll take less. The guy could easily get $1000+ for it if he parted it and and likely knows that.

He's been looking at newer bikes - I suspect he linked the '86 sale add soley as example and because he currently has one so he's familier with it's worth.

Our used prices are out of wack with the US, that's why many are importing these days or getting bikes from Quebec. Doesn't seem to matter the year if it runs and isn't rashed up they hover at $1800-2000.

I'm just saying that $500 for a running parts bike (title or no and depending on why it's salvaged) isn't (may not be) that bad of a deal. If I could pick up a good running '86 for $500 I'd be all over it. I also have a title-able frame I could use so that does make a bit of a difference. I'm sure there are other reasons why prices are so high (aside from everyone thinking their turds have been touched by Midas) but I'm not familiar with the Canadian market.

Exactly. It's the 2nd 86Vf500 Salvage Bike I've seen for $500. Yea he can part it out but that takes time and time is money. (That's why you get more money from parting out a bike)

I've looked at 4 90-93 VFR750F's and they all needed work, had well over 50,000kms and were anywhere from $2,500- $4,000

They are Crazy out of wack!

Depending on the shape of the bike.....$500 MAY be a good deal.

The fact that he wants $500 FIRM and the bike cannot be ridden isn't cool.

It seems that some folks want to get the most out of their used machine while others just want a quick sale. I have been fortunate to find a number of very good deals over the years that were borderline steals. Five years ago I paid $3600 for a pristine 5th gen that only had 6k on the clock. I had to drive five hundred miles to get it but it was worth every penny. I bought a really sweet 3rd gen off e-bay for the same price that had 16k on the clock but it was still a great deal and I had a load of fun on it for several years. I see the dealers liquidating new 6th gen bikes for less than some owners want for their used bikes. Shame but that is just what happens from time to time. There is a certain dealer in the Chi town area that has had the same overpriced fifth gen on the floor for three years. I looked at it when I lived there and it was too much in 2007, I see it on cycletrader yesterday and nothing has changed. How stubborn can a dealer be?

Keep shopping but be ready to pounce on an opportunity when it presents itself!

Ideally, I'm looking for any VFR with Gear Driven Cams.

I'm looking at parts bikes too but they are usually $500+

I bought my recent project/parts bike for $500. Could not be ridden and came as a pile of parts. Looked it over and felt I could get my money back in parts. Turns out it has a bad rod bearing. I figure I can have the thing cherried out including body work for $1500 complete investment. To each his own but sometimes $500 for parts aint all bad.

I'm always checking the classifieds here.

    Find them fix em' Ridem

My ride i had found here in Calgary, at a local body shop. I had been passing by this shop for @ 2 months.
She was sticking out from behind a large garbage bin. White tail, tank was all I could see, didn't know what make it was.
After my night shift had ended,I was off for a supply run. This run would take me by the business; This time I thought I would stop into the yard to satisfy my curiosity. as I pulled up to the Binny I could see a Honda (at the time model not known)went over to the bike have expecting it to be a wreck! found a very rough VF1000F dirty and in need of a newer loving home. I went into the shop looking for the owner where upon I found him.I inquired about the bike, asked d if it was for sale Tom (who is now a bud) said yes and he said it was going for $1500.00. I said thanks and walked out. went over to the bike stared at her for a few minutes . The service door to the alignment shop opened where Tom spotted me looking (still) at the bike ,he walked over and asked "How much do you have?"
I SAd $800.00, he said Sold what a nice guy! after 10 mins. he even loaded it on a bike trailer he had. Off to my house we went I was also told about the burnouts they would do with here Oh I forgot to mention she is a White cosmetically dirty .. once home and into the garage I thanked Tom off he went back to his business. One thing tome told me the second gear was missing well after the big cleaning fluids change and other things I fired her up what a nice sound I had longed in my youth for a BIG BLOCK Honda but couldn't afford it then. So that Summer I short shifted rode over 6000 klms as a tourist in the mountains around Calgary . as of today she has a new Tran installed and the cases are split. This weekend Will see her going back together Thanks to a lot of Friends here for all the work suggestions
I also picked up a ZXNinja1990 from Quebec needing a barn queen cleanup for $350.driven out here and forgotten only 4,000 on it parts are on the way so yes to barn Queens Keep them Running it may take some cash but Worth it..

    Thanks for the link woobie.

My french is bad also so that's why I tend not to look in Quebec.

    Plus it's far away.

I'm looking to go farther afield to get a good deal. Probably fly out and ride back will be my M.O.

I'm looking forward to the adventure of collection as much as having another VFR in the shed.
