This has to be a forum record.

I just picked her up this morning from the dealer and at the 60 klick mark we went down. Dumb, dumb, dumb :frown: :frown: :frown:

Pulling up to a stop light my pant leg on the right side somehow got caught up in the rear brake lever and over we went. My buddy riding behind saw it all happen in slow motion. Typical Honda, she immediately forgave me my stupidiy and allowed me to start her up and ride her home.

Snapped the right mirror off, bent the brake lever, snapped off the feeler from the foot peg, put a divot into the side case and scraped up the fairing a fair bit. (Up until that moment I was in bike heaven. This is a completely different ride than I had ever experienced before and I was loving it.)

The mirror, brake lever, and foot peg look to be relatively easy to replace but Ineed some advice about what to do about the scrapes and gouges in the fairing. Even my wife could see my pain and said get 'er fixed and hang the cost.

    HELP!

Glad your OK ---- Sounds like it was just a walking speed tip over, so the bike in general should be ok. The fairing stuff is usuall fix it or outright replace. There are vendors on line that can give you very good prices for the pieces you need. Ron Ayers and Service Honda are both highly recommended.

-- I went throught the same exercise with my old 4th gen bike. --- I went to the dealer for an estimate and then got a check from my insurance company, then did the whole repair myself. Saved some money that way.

There are a lot of talented people on this site - ask away on any questions you might have.

    Good luck

Thanks guys. I walked away absolutely unscathed but am just sick about the hurt I've done her. Hoping I can patch her up to look like new again fast!

I laid mine down four times in about 2 months. Each time while stopped though. Sort of lost ballance a bit. Have major back issues so just guided the bike down and sought someone to help me lift it up. Fortunately the worst was a small hole in the crank case on the first dump. It was a week old then. The other three resulted in one bent brake lever and some scratches. only on the faring. I am thinking about a custom paint job next year if I keep it. Haven't dropped it for well over a year now.

just hit it with some touch up paint and get used to the bike before considering new fairings IMO. actually, I'd probably not even consider new fairings until after the second wreck.. Now if you wreck like SLOVFr, then you pretty much need new fairings! sorry bout the drop but as the others said, you are ok.

OH NOOO!!! I can't imagine how you must feel. Glad you're Ok, and have the support of your family. Nothing worse than a wife saying "I told you those things were dangerous." I'd just replace the damaged pieces with new, stock, prepainted parts. The cost won't be much more than the price of repairing them. Then, you could E-Bay off the old parts and get some of your money back. I know it's been a long winter for you waiting to pick-up your new bike, only for this to happen:frusty:. I hate you have to go through all this with your brand new bike, but this will make a good story you can tell for years (after the pain subsides). Keep us posted.

I think leaving the fairings as is for a while is a good idea. Won't hurt so bad if you go down again-heaven forbid.

I rode around a corner from a stop light on my old bike with my right pant leg wrapped up in the foot peg once. scared to poop outa me until I got stopped and unwrapped.

That sucks. There's nothing much worse than the feeling of trying to put your foot down and having it caught. I think I'd leave the fairing damage for later if it were mine. Maybe acquire the replacements now, and save them for later.

One - glad you're ok and no harm came to you.
Two - Be thankful of a woman that understands the passion and understands your ride needs to look sweet.
Three - listen to Reg, give it some time before repairing the fairings (I'd say 6 months of good riding). No need to replace some minor scratches right now.

Enjoy the ride and good luck in the future.

I know how you feel. I just did in all the plastic on the left side of my bike last week. Honda is REAL PROUD of their replacement plastic components. eBay and Craig's list are your best friend now.

Congrats on the new bike. I am orry to hear that about the mishap. If it was me...hell yeah I would fix it right away. Personally, it would bug the living piss out of me to have my brand new bike go unfixed for months. It would give me more incentive to ride safe and live longer....

OH MAN ! So sorry to hear that. Major bummer. If it will make you feel any better, I had some of that great luck just a week ago too,...... when i let my girl down right in front of two other members here from the forum. Gravel and the concrete lip of the garage worked against me for that one. Now i just close my eyes when i look at the left side of the bike.

    Feel better ? :caked:

Sorry about the mishap. Thankfully all is well. I personally would get everything fixed ASAP. Get new parts for as cheap (servicehonda.com) as you can and get her like she was.

Thanks for all the great feedback, advice, commisseration and letting me know that I'm not the only one out there that has been wacked by a piece of bad luck. Like my buddy says it could have been a whole lot worse. I got to walk away with just a banged up ego and a smacked up just-off-the-show-room-floor VFR (sob!). For sure I will order the parts that broke and install those next week. The fairing I will also probably replace but I may take the advice about leaving that for a few months while the bike and I get to know each other a bit more.

My first words when I got off the bike after riding her home from the dealer (pre-mishap) was that now I get it, now I understand what you have all been saying over the last couple of months of me reading your threads. Even that short ride (30 kicks) gave great insight into the amazing (to me) qualities of this bike.

Thanks again and I will keep you posted on my repair plans. She's for sure a member this family for a long time.

Sorry dude, that sucks. I had mine about a month and a drunk ran me off the road, cost me about $650 to replace the nose and lower left cowl. Hope you have better luck with the bike and glad you weren't hurt.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, ShadowRider. I know how you've been waiting till it warmed up to pick up your new bike. Thankfully, you're okay. At least egos heal faster than the rest of our bodies.

My ex did almost the same thing on a friends Ducaki about 10 years ago. She pulled up to a stop sign in our neighborhood, put her foot down, and her foot slipped out on gravel. Damn, Italian fiberglass spider-webs easily. :) Our friend was pretty cool about it. He said the bike was 'just a thing. My favorite thing in the whole wide world, but just a thing'. He even had a portrait of the bike in his living room. Made her feel like crap!

It was really quite funny at the time.
Addendum to the story: He had the bike fixed at the Duc Dealer, and a week later pulled in behind the restaurant where he worked during the day. He soon heard a 'beep, beep, beep' as the beer delivery truck was backing into the rear of the store, then heard a 'crunch'. You guess it! Bike was then totalled out!
Mark (our friend) always said my ex doomed the bike when she dropped it.

Hope you get your 2006 back to pristine condition soon.

    Gary (GeorgiaRider)
