After reading the recent threads on switching a vf750 to hurricane rims, I am wondering if there are is any way to put a relatively compatible rotor position/rim size/etc. to easily change to a larger rear & front wheel??? Has anyone upgraded wheels to a wider size for Vf500's??? Thanks in advance for any information or experience!

You can add a set of CBR600F2 wheels for sure. You can contact member JamieDaugherty for more info.

How does swapping the wheels to 17" front and back affect the geometry and handing of the bike? Seems the front would come up and the back down effectively lengthening the rake and slowing the turn-in.

Now my vocabulary above may not be absolutely correct technically, but I hope folks can get my meaning.

    Thanks

Raise the forks in the trees and run a 160/70 and/or a shock with adjustable ride height out back.

Also, going from a crappy bias-ply 16" to a modern 17" radial will get you a better tire with a much better profile, which corresponds to quicker steering.

Last but not least, my two CBR F2 wheels together weigh just a little more than the stock rear wheel by itself... what more could you ask for? (lighter wheel will quicken turn-in & transitions).

Ooh, I think I'm on board for this,... I've already looked up the rims.

This would be for a 86 VF500 so any recommendations on the rear shock?

Fox Twin clicker, Penske, retro fitted OEM shock(CBR-F4i, for example)... lots of options there, provided you are or know a machinist.

It's like night and day - the handling is improved so much that it's like a totally different bike. The 500's are already a good handling bike, so the change in wheels makes them a real corner carver.

I can also help with the rear shock. I suggest starting with a CBR600F4/F4i shock as those are good performing units. I'm running a 00-02 YZF-R6 shock on one of my 500's and it's ok but a little underdamped for my fat-butt.

okay, won the auction for the rear wheel last night, but missed the front. I guess I'm committed to this upgrade.
