    EDIT: INTERCHANGABLITY
    So.......... i was thinking about buying an extra set of wheels so i could have track tires mounted up and ready for track days. Probrably a waste of money, but in the event that i could find something used and cheap enough, are there any other bikes that share the same wheel? I realize the rear may be pretty specific, but maybe the front is the same as some other Hondas ???

    Some of thew F4-F4i wheels swap, but know there's the question with Disc brakes, but H man, just get another set off the VFR, there's always a set on ebay and you know of course that the rear is what it is, other than you can use the older 3rd gens as those have the 5.5" wide wheels but weigh more.

    You can fit VFR800 wheels from 1998 to 2007 onto your '03.

    A 4th Gen wheel will fit a 5th Gen w/o any mods. It's when you try to put a 5th Gen wheel on a 4th Gen is where you have clearance issues. nothing that can't be resolved fairly easily, it's just not a straight bolt on swap. Just out of curiousity why would you wnat the 5 inch rear, quicker handling perhaps? I'm trying to source a 5th Gen wheel for my 4th Gen VFR as there appears to be more tire options for the wider rear rim, well at least over here in Germany anyway. Shipping tires is spendy!!!!!!!

    I like to experiment with different stuff. If you up in tire width it slows the steering and if you go down it quickens the steering. So I just would like to try the 4th gen wheel with a 175/60 tire on my 5th gen and see how it works. Also if its lighter thats a plus too.

    I also would like an extra set of wheels, but for a different purpose.

    I would like to have the extra set so that when it is time to put on new rubber, I won't have any down time.

    Has anyone ever seen a used set for sale? If so how much were they going for?

    Has anyone looked into the price of a new set?

    now that sounds like a good idea! I guess since I change my own tires I never thought of that one. maybe you should start doing yours. the first set took a while, but I get faster each time. I think I can do a tire in under an 30-45 mins now. That's after 6 tire swaps...

    I really would like to learn to do my own tires, but I have two concerns;

    1- What if I make the investment in the tools, and need the new tires I just ordered, but can't find the time to do the job right away? Then I know I'd be pushing the limits of the tread on my old tires... I'd rather never do that again. (A rear blow out cured this attitude.)

    2- What if I hate doing the job? Then I get to have more tools in my garage that I never use.

    I think I'll keep my local shop in business for a few more years until the kids are a little older and I'm looking for excuses to get out into the garage.

    very good points. I thought long about it before I made the investment. I like the fact that there is no waiting when I want my tires done, but I have skinned my knuckles once. Sometimes it is harder than others, but it's one of the maintenance items I have finally become comfortable with. Too many tools? Is that possible? Hmm, I could take some of those tools you don't use off your hands. You never know when I'll need a new thingamabobber or doomaflogitt.
