It all began, I think, after a big rain storm in Georgia Sunday before last. I took my trusty 5th gen out of the garageand headed the ten miles to my buddy's house to watch a little TV with the fam. I noticed when I started out the bike died for no reason. I drifted to the curb; started up again. All was well. I arrived without incident. At 11pm I figured I had overstayed my welcome. I put my stuff on (ATGATT) and went to mount the bike. It had rained big time. No problem, I thought to myself. Just a wet bottom when I get home. I rode about 100 yards and the bike started bucking and then just stopped.

The starter was cranking but no fire in the "hole". After repeated attempts to fire it up, the battery went dead and I called my buddy to come help me push it up the two steep hills and twisties by the lake near his house. We stowed it inside figuring in the morning it would dry out and I could be on my way. Maybe. NOT!!!!!!

Ceasar, my mech, came with his truck and took it to his shop about ten miles away. Kept it three days and announced on Yahoo Messenger that he has drained the tank and it had one half gallon of water in the gas. He changed the plugs which had not been touched for three years and she was ready to go. Or so I thought.

I was on my way this morning to St. Meinrad, Indiana to the Benedictine Monastery there to make my eight day retreat. This year's twist was that i was arriving on my vfr. All was well until this evening when I stopped in Goodlettsville, Tn for gas and a map adjustment. After turning the bike off the check the map situation. I tried to fire it up again to get on my way. No dice. Thus I am writing to you from the Red Roof Inn in Goodlettesville waiting for the dawn when I hope the people at the stealership about a mile away can work some magic.

WHAT'S GOING WRONG WITH MY BIKE?? ANYBODY GOT A CLUE???

Did I mention I came through fifteen miles of a teaming rain storm before stopping for gas that fateful time???

it could be your gas filler is leaking
take a piece of plastic wrap open gas cap lay in plasic wrap close cap and hose top of tank good.
open cap and see if any water is on the wrap.

Does the bike even try to crank or is there just nothing? Do the headlights and dash light up?

Do you know if the R/R was replaced? They're notorious for crapping out and it'll cause the battery to drain out.

sounds like you got a leaky gas cap seal. if it was replaced already, you may have some damage on the tank... often, people put the gas pump nozzle in the hole, and rest it on an edge... putting the hole in tension. This could cause the hole to become elliptical, and not seal.

As was stated, it seems that the issue with your bike has been involving water. Somehow water is getting into your tank.

Remember the discussions you and I had about T. Merton? How would Merton use this particular situation if he found himself there?

I suspect he would attempt to balance the issue of being stuck and possibly unhappy with his mechanic with the idea that the good people of Goodlettsville will now get to know you. So now your retreat begins there.

I would venture to say that you have probably aready come up with the same ideas.

As far as whats wrong with the bike...........so far water has figured heavily into the mix brother.

Check the top of the starter relay where wires attach for melting or burning.......
The Devil may be working there to frustrate your search for God.

All seems to be good with Ed for now. We both got here at Saint Meinrad about the same time last night. Everything right now seems to be pointing towards loose battery cables on the battery. Baileyrock helped him out yesterday and he is still going strong. We went for a short ride last night to go get dinner and stopped for gas and at another place without a hitch. Hopefully he is good to go for the remainder of his time here.

All I can say is,it is great to belong to VFRD and VFRW. It is a blessing.
Thanks everyone for your input. And to Baileyrock(VFRD) for rescuing me from
the stealership and a wrecked retreat experience.
BTW,they don't come much better than this Meatloaf boy :))
