I have a 17 front and 45 rear and it is way too low.
Cannot put a larger sprocket on the front.

Does anyone know what the stock rear sprocket was? # of teeth? THANKS!

My 1986 VF1000R is stock and is running a 17 / 44 combination. Your 45 will gear it down a hair, but not much.

I guess it is the outside rear wheel diameter that is smaller. It is 26 inches OD
I am going to try for a 40 tooth sprocket.

Tire size is 140/80-17. The rim width is 4.25 inches. Hopefully that helps.

Thanks but what would be better is to know the outside diameter of the wheel with the tire on it. The wheel is 17 inches but I need to
know the total outside diameter of the tire. THANKs!!

Because if your outside tire diameter is close to mine then maybe my bike is not shifting into all the gears.
    i hope not.

I've got about 25", very rough measurement. The tire is down to the wear bars too.

What is the cruising RPM of the Vf1000R?

I am thinking I am wanting it to loaf along and it needs to be more revved up at cruising speed.
Would 5,000 RPM be cruising along?

I just measured mine and like vfrcapn said, the diameter is right at 25". My tire is not worn and has plenty of life left on it. Your gearing looks to be good, so what is the diameter of your tire? To only get up to 50 mph means that something is way off.

I've never paid much attention to mine and unfortunately, it is off the road right now, but my 800 runs at about 5400 RPM at 75 MPH. I imagine that the 1000 would be just a little less than that.

    Yes....exactly.

Mine is a comfortable rpm in high gear at 55 mph.
Would like it to be 65 or higher.
So today I bought a 37 tooth sprocket and that should be about 66.8 mph at 4,000 rpm or so.

    Thanks for the info!

That sounds about right. My rear wheel may be just a little smaller diameter than a stock Vf1000R wheel.
I was reading the specs on a 1985 Vf1100 Sabre and it said the top speed was 165!!!
