After much angst and a shitload of testing etc (read grief) I am almost certain my stator is faulty.

Came to this conclusion after following the tests for charging system on Electrex World and stator tested very poorly when doing Generator Leakage Current test, ie 2-6 on each yellow wire. Should be 10+

Now I notice the PO has replaced the R/R at some stage with part SH701-12 which I found is a replacement for 4th gen VFR's.
Could the original R/R have caused damage to the stator which now needs replacing?

What else can damage the stator?

    Thanks for any help.

If the plug carrying the 3 yellow wires melts and shorts one wire to another, that will kill the stator.......and you can usually smell it !
