What is this ? ?

While having my annual look inside the tank to see the condition i found this. It was on the tank floor directly underneath the cap and am sure it wasnt there last year. I first thought it was some kind of outlet so poked it with a screwdriver and it moved so pulled it out with some long nose pliers. Its plastic with a magnet underneath. Totally baffled ? ? ?

 

Is it to hold the tank down to the engine at high speed?

 

Could it be a datatag hoojamaflip that's placed in the tank. I've found several in the past on various bikes but they haven't had the bit that you can stick things in on them.

Somebody dropped something in the tank and tried to use a magnet to pull it out and it fell off the end of the stick?....aliens? I can tell you what it isn't.......
