i recently had to replace the right side clutch cover on my 6th gen. when i pulled off the old cover, a pin (shaft) and a gear came with it. i figured out how everything went back together, but i don't know what that gear was for; oil pump, starter?? none of the on-line parts diagrams have been any help, and i don't yet have a service manual.

Most likely it was the starter idler gear Casey.

The Red arrow points to the starter idler gear.
The Green arrow points to the starter reduction drive gear.
