I've got about 400 miles on my '07 and love it so far, but I now have a puddle that is forming on the floor underneath the rear shock. It is a light blue liquid that seems to be a lightweight oil. It is collecting and dripping from the shock, so I have to assume that is it coming from shock as I don't know where else it could be coming from. Can anyone confirm that the shock fluid is light blue in color? Also, from the first ride to now, the rear shock has had a pogo stick effect. I have already tightened the shock collar to the highest setting (7) and it still bounces. I'm guessing I have a bad shock. Any thoughts? Thanks.
It's entirely possible that the shock has blue oil in it. It's basically the same as fork oil, and I have seen blue fork oil. If it's pogo-ing, you've probably got something wrong with the damping mechanism. The damping is done by forcing oil through little orifices in the shock, which means if there's not enough oil, it wouldn't work. So I'm guessing the shock has a bad oil seal and has lost too much of its oil. If it's an 07 it should still be under warranty. Take it back and let the dealer cope with it.
I took the bike to the dealer last Saturday and as expected, the rear shock is defective. They couldn't tell if it has a bad seal or if there is a defect in the shock body. Either way, they turned it around very quickly and the whole warrantly process was hassle-free. I picked it up last night and what a difference. When I first took this bike out for the first time, I told my wife that the bike is great, but the shock sucks! I can't believe that Honda got it this wrong! Well, now I know why. Hopefully this is an isolated incident and not a problem with other '07 models.
