While my bike was in service the Honda factory rep was there making his rounds. He recognized me from last year because he was there when I took delivery of my VFR. He asked how my bike was and if I had any input about the service I have recieved.... any problems etc. I told him I love my bike and I told him about our site and how everybody is wondering what is going on with the VFR. He said it certainly won't get any sportier because they have the CBR line for that. I told him about our idea for a VFR 1000 and he laughed and said "Would you trade yours as soon as it came out?" I said I probably would if I got a good trade value..... HAHA but he leveled eventually and said don't expect too much in the line of changes for this segment. Comfortable sportbikes aren't what people are buying, they either buy a sportbike or a cruiser/VTX style bike for comfort. I don't think we'll be seeing anything new coming our way from Honda. Even my salesperson said they should take the Superhawk's twin and put it in the VFR bodywork. That got a laugh.... We asked about the concept bikes that were in Red Rider and he said possibly something we may see one but people don't buy enough Japanese nakeds to justify the cost of bringing them over. He mentioned the 599 success in Europe but not here. I said thats because Japanese bikes lack character the European bikes have. In any case it was funny hearing the direction Honda seems to be going. They want to build lots of big bore cruisers for 2009 and focus on Superbikes and Supersports so they can win some championships and sell more bikes. I wonder how long they will build it. The cruisers are the moneymakers for them and the CBR is the image bike.
