stupid me for not taking pics when i took it off. i need to buy a helms - the clymers doesn't do it for me =/

i'm pretty sure the hose attched to the carbs goes to the gas tank. where does the other hose attach to? it looks like it is going to part of the radiator on the other side - not sure about that, but if i had to guess here in the dark that is my guess. so close to have this running tomorrow!!!

neither one of those hose's goes to the gas tank. they are emission hose's. there is a tank right behind the battery, that's where one goes the other looks to go to the carb for more emissions. don't have them on my bike. maybe matt can help you he has an 86.

are there any hookups on your air box ?? the side pic of my bike the rubber hose hooks to the emission over behind the batt , the bradded hose is the fuel line coming in from the fuel petcock on the bottem of the tank.

the airbox has the cone nipple looking thing, but i don't think anything was connected to it. i defiantly don't have any braided hose. the gas tank wasn't hooked up when i got the bike, so i'm not sure what it came off of.

this is the best side pic i have

i can get a better one tomorrow when its light out if it'll help

here is a little bit better side view on my carbs: i can barely see in the clymers that it shows the fuel line going somewhere there, but i can't tell where it would be - there are no fittings on the side of my bike. and i don't really have anything to hook those 2 hoses to.. what kind of line would i buy to run them to where ever they need to go?

THE line from the carbs needs to be rotated 180 degrees so it points more toward left side and connects to petcock, and the lower hose hooks to the bottom of the metal airbox plate between the 2 rear carbs.

seemed to work. it idles pretty high with choke full open (4k) then it runs for a while and dies. i can't move the choke from full open or it dies.

and it seems to have some smoke coming from somewhere

little black knob on the front right of the carb, turn counter clock wise to turn down. you might want to take pics before you put it all back together. for future.

If it has been sitting for a while it probably has a idle jet that is clogged up or a float needle that is gummed up.

If you give it choke and it runs fine and wants to quit if you turn the choke off it just means tone of the carbs has a clogged idle jet. AFTER IT IS WARMED UP
Take the carbs off and remove the float bowls. make sure you can see daylight through the jet when you take it out and hold it up to the light.

Sorry no other way to do it. no spray or and canned junk will clear it out.
Vwry common if the bike has been sitting around for more than a month.

no, i was just putting the carbs back in from being rebuilt. i think its just cuz it was the 1st time i started it. got the idle adjusted and it seems to be running ok (although that is driveway running, haven't ridden it) it was hard to adjust the idle because the idle knob got bent when i mailed the carbs off - but it is idling about 1k now
