Had a couple paragraphs typed and lost it.
Basically I am pretty limited on space, and worse if/when I head out (probably in the spring) I will likely be tent camping more often than getting a room.

What are the things you take on nearly every long trip?
Any odd items should include a story or reason why/how the item came to be a necessity.

    Regards
    db

Hey DeeBee ... there's already a few threads on here with this information. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Here you go ... more of an emergency list ...

    http://vfrworld.com/forums/showthread.php/51146-What-s-in-your-emergency-kit?highlight=pack

What you pack depends on how much you're willing to carry, how far you're going, and whether or not you plan on camping or indoor lodgings.

Since I primarily camp with a tent, I have a marine bag that contains everything I need to setup camp:

    - Camp Chair
    - Tent
    - Sleeping Bag
    - Pillow
    - Newspaper
    - Lighter
    - LED Flashlights
    - Plastic Bags
    etc ...

If you don't take your bags along there's less to carry. One of the dudes from OZ has more on this.

I think I tend to over pack but then again, when I head down to California, it is at a time of the year I have to pack for three seasons

[IMG] After you have packed, look at everything with the thought, "can I do without this?" Things like a bath towel are not needed even when camping. You can dry off with a face cloth.

Your tool kit is a must. It already has its own little spot under the seat. A travel sized can of chain lube. NO kidding though, a valid credit card. And very important, a spare set of keys pinned inside your suit.

A hope and a prayer if you are into that sot of thing.

LOL .. I still don't know how you ride with that big backpack.

Good on you though buddy. You're making it work. I guess I'll need to pack for 3 seasons this May as well. :p

Ya. I am going to have to keep that idea on hold until closer to the event. Getting from here to Coutts Alberta means going over the Crow's Nest Pass. There could very well still be snowy weather in the Rockies there in mid May. I may have to revert to my original plan and bee line down the I-5. Even at that, Siskew Pass on the I-5can suck bad.

Lets see how the weather trends go closer to the date. If the trend is OK I am up for the risk.

It gotta be easier to carry a big 40lb backpack while riding rather than when hiking up the side of a hill.

Not if you are trying to get from the Canadian border to the Mexican border in 24 hours. Only deviation off the I-5 and onto the 405 near northern Burbank and re-enter the I-5 north of San Clemente. Not that this will reduce the mileage. It is longer distance wise. But the 405 is a better freeway and time is less. At least it was.

Too bad you can't take the gun but Kalifornia hasn't figured out that people kill people yet. I've reluctantly started putting one in my tail bag everywhere I go now. Where I live, the castle law is highly supported and, guess what, there is less crime here than non-carry states but it's here so I carry.

Don't own one. Don't need one. Don't want one. Each to their own.

Canada is a more peaceful, civil country. America has too many people and groups of people that seem to have an innate need to cause trouble. I have my own opinion of what drives most of it but better leave that alone.

What goes in the bag depends on several things. Chiefly the bag, and whether or not she has a headache.

This from an article from www.motorcyclecampingmag.com

I totally agree with leaving it alone. Wrong place, wrong subject.
