Everyone is fine. The fire was contained to the garage. We had a wind and rain storm on Thursday night and the power lines arced down the block. My neighbor saw the flash follow the line up the hill and saw the glow from the fire starting on the roof of my garage. I was not home but my wife and daughter were in the lower level of the house. A neighbor called 911 and started banging on the door to get my family out of the house. By the time my wife called me and I jammed home, the fire department was there and the fire was mostly out. As you can see the top of the bike melted from the heat. I just put new tires on 2 weeks ago... Now I'm waiting for the insurance to evaluate the bike. The guys at the shop think it might be totaled but I really want to rebuild it if possible. I've never gone through something like this so I don't know what to expect. I'm still a little numb from the whole thing but as long as my family is safe I guess I'll be fine. If it is totaled, I don't know what to do since I'm still paying for this bike. We are in a hotel for the next week or so since there's no power at the house. I'm pretty lost at the moment...

Damn Wayne, Im glad everyone was safe. Thats a sucky thing to have to deal with. Im sure the ins. will cover the cost of the bike. Unless your really upside down on it, you should be fine.

So bad and sad. Glad that nobody got hurt.
If the bike is totalled, see if you can buy the bike off the insurance company. Those pipes etc look good to go.
This is what a friend did at the end of last year, when an old cage driver did'nt see the stop sign and my friends VFR VTEC was written off by the insurance company due to front end damage.
He salvaged a shed load of stuff that was servicable.
The old guy pleaded guilty, so the insurance pay out may buy my friend a new 1200 with all the compensation (He hopes).

Just take it one day at a time. You're lucky to have family for support.

About the VFR, if the electricals aren't totally trashed, buy it back from the insurance company and get a set of those inexpensive fairings and tank cover talked about in another thread. Might be a fun project!

Stuff, even the bike, can be replaced. Sounds like your neighbors were looking out for your family and the FD was on the ball. Glad you & your's are safe.

Damn Wayne. That is the suck for sure. I'm not sure if I'd want to rebuild or not. I know that VFRs run hot, but that is hot even for a VFR. The electrical gremilins would be on your ass for years from that I would think...I'd hate to lose those pipes that you worked so hard for, though... Too bad you couldn't swap to the old shit before the tow truck got it... If it doesn't work out with that bike, we will gladly welcome you to the fifth gen if you can't find another silver surfer...
