Ive got a new to me 98 VFR and from 1st gear only there is what feels
like a clutch chatter or bucking upon releasing the clutch..

The Bike has 12k with a brand new chain properly adjusted and the sprockets
are in excellent shape. It almost feels like a clutch plate may be warped (hope
not) but Ive got the feeling everything in the clutch mechanism is alright.

Has anyone got any ideas on what to check? If I gas it and ride the clutch a bit
coming outta first it disappears... TIA.

The VFR is geared a little tall in first .. Is this your first bike with a hydraulic clutch? If so they take some getting use to. just practice your take offs and bring the throttle up just a wee bit as you slowly release the clutch..

Mine shakes like a wet dog in Alaska when I let the clutch out. It's the engine. I've checked everything known to man trying to hunt down why it's so rough below 3000, not even the dealer can figure it out. My 94 Magna is MUCH smoother which doesn't make any sense to me.

Ironically there are no vibes when out on the interstate at 5500, so I guess it's a tradeoff.

these should be smooth as silk..somethings not right..type of clutch actuation makes no diff..clutch shouldnt do it! not hard to open it up and take a look. shaking is usually a bad disc or plate....you shouldnt be putting up with that! good luck.
