So I know the stock suspension kinda sucks but I am going to have to deal with it for at least this summer on my new to me 2000 VFR. I am about 210 pounds and I have been messing around with preload and such to try and find a happy medium but I was curious where some of you guys who are close to me weight wise have yours set?

Right now I have my rear at the 4th stiffest setting for preload and rebound 1/2 turn our from full hard and that seems ok. Have not messed with the front too much but I was going to try the preload at the 2nd "notch". It is about 3.5 now.

Going over any rough pavement or heaves/frost joints is not very fun to say the least, lol. I will be doing the Daugherty Motorsports thing over winter for sure......

I have my preload just 1 off of the hardest. Just because I normally have my girlfriend on the back and feels more comfortable with the panniers and the half ton of scaffolding holding them on. We don't weigh much, but certainly feels better having the suspension stiff for our bumpy roads over here!

Haven't really dabbled with the rebound and the like, just the preload...if it feels good don't mess with it haha
If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)

I find lots of people say that the best thing you can do with any bike (if you don't think about cost) is to get
    1. lighter wheels
    2. upgraged suspension
Well I'm not made of money, and even if I was, I still find the vfr suspension the best compaired to all other bikes i've ridden.

    Have fun tinkerin' ;)

Thanks for the info :) I think I pretty much have it where it feels good for now (i.e, it is livable)...BUT...I have definitely come the realization that the stock suspension is very lacking. If I get the preload where I want it, it is very harsh over sharp bumps...mainly because there is no compression damping adjustment, and I am compensating for springs that are too soft, etc :frown: I will be calling Daugherty motorsports come winter!!
