    I'd like to say hello and look forward to gaining some knowledge about my favortie bike!

    :welcome:

    My first question is about the differences between generations on the VFR. I know the 800 came around in '98, but am interested to know what's the real difference between the '98-99 and the 2000-'01?

    I've got cash burning a hole in my pocket also and am looking for a '98-99 but am curious about maybe getting a newer year model. Hence the reason for my asking about the differences.

    The first thing that comes to mind is the 2000-2001 has a catalytic converter and better looking mirrors, other than that there isn't to much difference, BTW :welcome:, how is it going in the Ragin Cajun territory, big selection of VFR's?

    So how much does the cat. change performance...negligible? The '98-99 seems to be going for a premium these days whereas I could get a newer bike for less. Any particular reason?

    Louisiana has ZERO VFR following man. I'd be the only guy here with a VFR...but that isn't to say there's not a huge biker crowd. The bike scene here is insane. The VooDoo riders are from a town 1hr from me. :smile:

    I'm not so much year-specific as much as budget-limited. hehe About $4000 is all I will be able to swing right now. I think that's plenty.

    I ride a 98. I didn't realize it was a higher resale than a 2k. I figured they are about the same. I have heard the pipes are becoming popular as there is a new mod to put them on a 6th gen VFR, but other than that, the first thing I notice is the mirrors from y2k up look much nicer. That's easy enough to change, though. there is a nice 99 in your range for sale locally here. I almost bought it myself. you could pick it up and ride it back to LA from here. It's a long way, but you could do the southern route across the US and have fun with it.

    oh, and welcome to the site.

    Welcome...

    The changes I remember are:

    Mirrors 98,99 had condom mirrors 00,01 had metal stork mirrors
    Cat. Converter {00,01}
    Small VFR logo on tacho {00,01}
    Manual Choke lever {98,99}
    HISS ignition and key system {00,01}

    Maybe more, can't remember really.

    hey goto,

    I resemble that remark. Just to let you know, I live in Louisiana and I own two VFR's -- an 86 pearl white VFR700F2 and An 06 Pearl white VFR800 Vtec. so I must be no body. thanks a bunch man LOL. I would have sold you one of them but since they or I don't exist then I guess I won't. more LOL. I also know for a fact that Garrret Honda in Kenner Had an 07 RWB VFR800 it has been sold. Ergo there are at least three of them here I know a guy who has a red 04 VFR (we all know red is faster, except for the white LOL) and i had seen a yellow 2000 which I almost bought myself before Katrina. so you should be more careful of statements that are gross generalizations with no basis in fact or reality. No harm no foul and I will be on the lookout for a viffer for you. If you get one PM me and we can hook up and ride. I have a brother & mother who live in Lafayette. sounds like a good excuse to visit them
