Quick Stage Set: I just purchased my 02. The previous owner installed a 15T front sprocket and a Jim Ahlman Speedo Correction II. He says when he washes the bike the speedo gets goofy (till it dries) unless he wraps it in a plastic bag. I drop the bike off for inspection and tire install and it rains that night (the bikes are stored outside). I get a call a few days later saying the bike failed. The speedo is whacky.... I tell them about the corrector and if it could be removed for the inspection. "I'll make a note" he says. It's been 2 weeks now. They haven't gotten back to it yet. The question is: Thoughts/Ideas/Experiences waterproofing this device from anyone? I'm trying to think of a good way to waterproof this device as I do routinely ride/commute in the rain. It was purchased in 2004 and is no longer available. I may just leave it out or replace with a "SpeedoHealer" or equivalent. However I do like a good challenge when it comes to fixing/modifying things. I must say I'm NOT happy with Pete's Cycle in Bel Air Maryland. The Service there has been terrible so far.
I've packed a bunch of my connectors FULL of dielectric grease in an effort to keep moisture out of the equation. Depending on how it's wired we may be able to replace the connector with an outdoor rated one so that it's sealed properly. Post up some pics or maybe we could get together and figure this one out. I would reccomend Meyers Cycle but it's down by me in Kensington and that's a hell of a hike from you.
