HI Midniteben. While this is not an answer to your question per se, I have heard that the shift is pretty tight on new VFR's for a couple of thousand miles at least. Mine has got 2000 miles approx, and it's just starting to loosen up. From what I have seen, a fully synthetic oil will help the shifting stiffness. However, there is a school of thought that says you shouldn't use fully synthetic oil for a certain period from new, so that the engine breaks in correctly.

So basically, give it a bit of time to break in/free up, then change to a fully synthetic oil and see if that helps.

Hey Ben; Although I cant make a true comparison to your 06 bike, I can tell you that I use Red Line 10-40 in my 2000 vfr. With the Red Line, my bike shifts very smooth. Winaje stated to give the bike a chance to break in using conventional oils. I agree but with my zx-10r I made the change at 500 miles and have observed no ill effects. With break in, the major concern is the proper seating of the piston rings, If the cylinders had the proper cross hatch from the factory your piston rings have been broken in since about mile 250. eddie

At 3K on my 6th gen, the shifting is fine, but then it has been fine since day one. IMHO, riding & shifting will likely help more than a different oil. How many miles are on your '06?

Please stop banging your head MD.... it just hurts worse when a mello dude is that upset. :smash:

today's thought is: Oil threads add viscosity to discussions.

At 4K miles I switched over to Rotella synthetic since from what I've read in tests it has good shear resistance. I have run Mobile1 in other bikes and had good results. I like the way they shift with dino oil better - less clunky - but I'll live with it for the better wear protection.

Ben: At 3K, my 07 is shifting fine in the stock Honda Pro Oil. It's all dino. I don't have the miles you do you yet, but don't think I have the same problem so... can't help... but WVFR's comments sound like experience talking.

Ok I'll bite - I run my bikes on dino to about 7500 - 9000 and then switch to synthetic. I like the Mobil1 10w-40 motorcycle specific oil - seems to work very well in my rides. I buy it by the case at AutoZone. My experience is the shifting seems smoother than dino.

    - Another goofy note - my Valkyrie, is a gas hog. I was lucky to get 130 miles a tankful before reserve from the bastard. When I switched to Mobil1, that went up to 155 a tank before reserve.

Ok I'm mello again, maybe have something to do with the Corona's consumed..
