Finished up this project today, using a 45 degree elbow made of schedule 40 PVC. Super easy and looks fairly decent. I used graphite spray paint I had on hand. Would look better in bronze, but I didn't want to go out and battle the hoards of TP hoarders at the local Wally Mart.

Can’t you all just run a Powerlet outlet down the steering stem (under black cap)? That’s what I did on my 6th gen, super clean.

The O.D. of my voltmeter/USB charger was larger than the I.D. of the steering stem. Besides, I wanted to run a RAM ball mount in the stem.

I hear ya. Powerlet is a lower diameter than SAE (Cigarette Lighter). Also Powerlet is better than Cigarette Lighter for motorcycles, so if you do look at putting an outlet anywhere, maybe look into Powerlet. Much more firm fit, which is good for wind/vibration (it wont fall out, or create intermittent connection).
