Well, you can plug in and see what happens... run the bike and sniff for more burning plastic?

If you're determined to do something, then I'd suggest that you cut away the gray plastic harness/plug. Use something very sharp, and do it carefully, so you don't damage the individual spade connectors that are housed inside of it. If you do it right, you'll have 5 free wires with female spade connectors on each end. Then inspect the problem connector. If it's crispy, you can try cleaning it with DeOxIt or some similar cleaner. Or you can cut it off and solder on a new one.

Then, you can just plug each female spade onto the reg/rec individually. Just make sure you remember which is (+) and which is (-), or you'll pop your main 30A fuse. These are not marked on the reg/rec, because it's meant to receive a plug. Then wrap the whole thing in electrical tape and you're done.

When I replaced my R/R, I used one from a 2000 Yamaha R1. Way cheaper than the Honda model, and superior too. I had to cut my plug like I described above to free the individual connectors, since Yamaha and Honda use different plugs. It's been 2 years since I installed it, no troubles.

    Hope that helps.

9.99 plus shipping. It's the plastic body with new brass fittings you solder on.

Now it doesn't say it fits the 90-97 VFR's but it does.

    Trust me, I'm a :ninja:
