VIN says 700, bike says 750. Who's lying?

So whilst getting insurance quotes today, I discovered the VIN for my bike is actually for a VFR700, but it was sold to me/has fairings for a 750. I wouldn't think someone would repaint fairings to make the bike look like a 750, seems like a waste of money. Maybe someone swapped it? Who knows... I'll post the engine number up, but is there an easier way to tell? Or is it pretty obvious from the engine number?

From my recent experience trying to sort out my little Suzuki, engine numbers are generally not important. Its the chassis number that the authorities are most interested in (South African law, your results may vary) If it's only for your own interest then most engines have the displacement cast into the block somewhere (742cc ect). Try find that to be 100% sure.

A lot of ins companies here in the states use displacement, bike style, or a combination of both. So of course new litre sportbike riders take it up the rear in ins.

Had to go look as it has been a long time since i last looked but it is on the front left cylinder where it states the cc's. Should be 698 for a 700 ans 748 for a 750.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'll check when I get home. I don't know why, but the insurance quote i got from progressive was stupid cheap. So much so that I may opt for a little bit of comprehensive coverage...

Welp. It's a 700, i hate when people do that sort of thing, like putting badges from a faster car on the economy version. I may be selling my fairings then, seems rather silly to have my 700 say 750.

Very clean, but i just realized they don't actually say 750, they have a body shop phone number on them... Hate when they do that.

Nice looking machine, but you may want to work on your dyslexia. It looks like it says 570, not 750.

Good ole Tariff buster model! All because of Harley Davidson. Well at least you have the gear driven cams...or do you?

I have no idea how to tell on the cams. And in my defense, the bike was sold to me as a 750 and I took the fairings off just about immediately... =P

I thought the 700 and 750 were the same except for the rods/crank or something like that? Also I'm a little concerned that whoever put the super trapps on didn't adjust the carbs for them...

I'll post more pics when I can

I said that half jokingly because of the sticker on the bike 'Gear Driven Cams'. One way you can tell for sure is the engine whine. The gear driven cams have a distinct sound to them. What I remember about the 700, was made so Honda could crank out basically the same bike as the 750 but avoid the tariff on motorcycles of 750CC or larger. My memory on the exact difference is fuzzy, I was two years out of high school when these came out! Either way I think the bike looks in good shape and if she runs well, what's 50CC anyway. Unless your insurance will come down due to the smaller CC, then it's a hidden bonus.

    Cheers!

Well i'm pretty much at the bare minimum price insurance wise, so i'm not sure how i could raise it. 20 year old on 700 cc bike? You got me.

If it says RC24 or Rc26 on the engine case # then you have a gen 2 with the wonderful gear driven cams.
I am pretty much sure you do without seeing any pictures.
