    Hi
I have seached the forum, but I cannot find an answer.

After 3 month of winter break i had some troubles starting my bike. I found out that it was a fuel issue. I ran the fuel hose directly from the filter to the carburetors, and the motor immediately started. I thought the fuel pump was done so I ordered a new from ebay. I did not want to go without the pump.
After I got the new pump I just wanted to test it. I connected it straight to the 12V DC battery. The only thing that happened was that, the relay of the pump just clicked. But the pump did not run in a continuous way. Furthermore I could not sense a vacuum or pressure at the inlet/oulet connections?
Have I misunderstood the function of it? I thought it humming like a DC motor delivering a continuous pressure.
How dos this pump work, and how can I test it??

Mount that baby up and make sure gas flows into it. Pumps do funny things when they're dry.

Tip Over Relay? Reset by turning ignition on,off, then on again!

Thanks norms and do not run that pump dry, you will destroy it as it uses fuel to cool

Bypassing the fuel pump relay with a jumper is a good test for the pump electrics. So is a resistance test between the 2 pump wires. If pump clicks, it's alive and will probably work, but it should be connected to fuel on the inlet side for testing as it doesn't like to run dry. :drunk:

RC36 fuel pumps are driven by coil impulses flapping the relay. The motor has to be running for the pump to work. I know, weird!

Not true if the pump relay is bypassed, as we all agree.......

BTW, i recently had an misfortunate incident that included my relay-removed Hawk going horizontal with the engine running briefly, and no sign of smoke or flames.

Please 'scuse me; it's an electronic relay, so i don't believe it has any moving contact points to flap about.
