i got an 86 500 that isn't starting and if it does it will only run for like 5 seconds or so(thats with the choke on the whole way)...I bought this bike off my buddy it ran fine when he had it and i know that for a fact. but it sat for a year, so when i picked it up i drained the carbs and cleaned them, put in fresh gas and fluids and cleaned the plugs since they only had around 600 miles on them...he had the carbs cleaned and synched about 3500 miles ago................after i try to start it if i pulll the plugs they're covered in gas.I'm guessing they need replaced. but it seems like it's dumping in to much gas into the carbs . Is there any way to check the petcok? if the tanks off and i put alittle suction on the vac. line gas just dumps out of the main line for about 30 second, is that right?sorry for the long post hope it made sence, i've been up for about 30 hours and getting a little loopy... i got a manual for the bike but i forgot it at my friends house and he's gone for the next week.......thanks agin for any suggestions....oh yea also wanted to ask if the carbs would need synched again since they we're just done like 3500 milesago

alright heres an update. I gave her some starting fluid and she fired right up run for a few an sounded good. so i figured it wasn't getting enough gas, so i got creative . i took off the gas tank, blocked the vac.line on the cylinder and put on a longer fuel line attached to a funnel filled it up with gas and after the 3 or 4 try fired up and ran, till the funnel was empty put in more gas same thing great right? wrong i put the tank back on hooked up the vac line and nothing.....long story short(i know too late) i read a write up on cutting the dyafram inside the petcock to make it gravity feed in stead of vac feed. I think i might go this route, anyone think of anything else for me to try before cutiing into the dyafram???????thanks again for reading

Have you considered adding a little sea-foam to it? I've used in other carburated machines and it works a treat.
