    Hi all.

    I currently have a VFR800 Vtec A6 but am considering a VFR1200 2012-2014
Anyway I hired a 1200 just to try it for the weekend and I was very impressed until
after about 120 mile on the second day after pulling away from a junction it appeared to lose power and not rev through.
The only thing that seemed odd when I pulled over is that the FAN was on and the temperature was 1 cube off maximum on the display.
I had not been riding aggressive or revving about 7,000 ish so I saw no need for the fan.
Also after I turned of the engine the fan continued for over 15 minutes which again I found strange..
So after 30mins cooling down I tried again and it seemed fine and power was restored.
The fuel tank was half full and the air temp was around 18 degrees Celsius o the day..

Has anyone an explanation for this??

I don't want to got and spend £12000 on a bike that does this..
Thanks for any help or advice guys :)

It sounds like there was something wrong with that rental bike if it got hot enough for the engine to go into some sort of limp home mode.

It certainly does not sound like normal behaviour. But then again we all know that rental vehicles are always the fastest and this may be a case in point especially if it has done a huge mileage.

As for what happened, it could be many things - jammed thermostat, head gasket defect, low coolant, or it just got fed up with the lunatic riding! Certainly a couple of the locals here in the Alps have 1200s and they have never missed a beat.

On the plus side I hope you gave the rental company grief and got a big discount on the rental fee!

I'm told its a temperature problem that some 2010 VFR1200's had and when it get quite hot the engine will lose power intermittently until it has cooled again. :-(
Don't think I will be buying a 2010 model now lol

    Thanks for the reply skimad4x4
