VFR1200 Early Adopter Yes/No

If you had the money burning a hole in your pocket, how many of you would get it now or how many of you will wait for a while (whatever a "while" means to you) to see how it pans out.

Considering that the whole bike is computer controlled it's not something that we could fix easily. If Honda is on the ball they will allow users to flash their ECU's to keep them current. That move alone would remove my concerns. I'm sure mechanically it will be fine. Unless the DCT system explodes after a year...

 

Two things come up for me, One price, Bang for the buck, I'm kinda frugal that way, I'm not afraid to buy a new model first year out, I've done that. This VFR may be really trick but? at what cost, LOL Itneeds to have another color option too. I'm being sorta optimistic here in as I'd like to like it, But??

I also have a 4th gen in stand by just in case this VFR1200 doesn't pan out. I also have a couple sport sport version in my sites, but every time I do the math man that 4th gen is a hard one to beat. still I'll buy it "if" it feels right, it's gota talk to me sing to me ya know. :wink: Only way to know now is to take one for a spin. I'm in no hurry I'm still on the mend, but getting the itch real bad to get in the saddle. should be a crazy winter to say the least.

 

Given honda's reputation if I had the cash I'd be in line to get the DTC model based on the excellent reviews. If there are any issues I know Honda will take care of them. I mean, I haven't heard of a Honda 1st year model blowing up. Even over 10 years ago when they released the '98 VFR the only change they made in '99 was they made a slight change in the fuel injection mapping. I don't hear of anyone with a '98 demanding refunds.

 

ya I hear ya, sadly I don't have it either. I think if I actually had the money though I may still be a bit apprehensive about getting it straight away. It's gonna take me a few years to convince the powers to be anyhow LOL, if I said I'm getting one now I would be missing a kahuna shortly there after. :crutch:

 

I would love to have one, I think they are different, but I dig some of the tech it has. with a little work, I'm sure the thing will be a weapon.

 

I'd have to see the red in person. In some of the pictures, it doesn't look right to me but, honestly, I'm not sure Italian Red would look right on this bike either.

I don't like the white. Looks like a refrigerator.

I would definitely go for the dual clutch gearbox. I have two other bikes including a gen 5 with standard transmissions. I won't forget how to shift any time soon.

This technology is definitely intriguing to me. I like the seamless power delivery concept.

As long as the pillion is happy with her accommodations, I'm getting one this spring.

 

Given the 12's likely 14k price and the fact I don't do credit anymore, it's gonna take 2-4 years for me to save up...

 

If I had the money to spend on a new bike in the mid to high teens, I'd buy it, but after a test ride. Also, I'd have to read some "regular people" reviews, not just those of moto journalists. But I wouldn't be too concerned with bugs or glitches.

Those who have put deposits down, have you been told how much they'll cost? If not, what if the price is $14k or $18k? Would that determine whether or not you'd go through with the purchase?

 

Since for me it's between the 7th Gen and a C14, the price difference won't be big enough for me to care, I doubt.

 

I'm curious if it will be different enough than the 6th gen to justify keeping both? Maybe the touring version will be...

 

I want a VFR1200; I just bought a new CBR1000RR ( a deal I could not pass up) so I woun't have one soon but I will be waiting a few years at least then perhaps a used one.

so we now know that the first year vfr1200's will not feature vtec, cylinder deactivation, dual clutch transmissions, etc ; im not seeing all of this tech that everyone is talking about...
being that these cylinder heads feature only one single overhead cam per head (with the camshaft sitting directly over the intake valves and rocker arms actuating the exhaust valves) and NO vtec more than likely maintenance and valve service/inspections intervals should not be that bad/pricey...
