ok.. did the deed with vfr vs a 06 fjr..took my 00 which is quicker than my 05, when geared down a tooth and the can on it, it runs dead even with the kids 06 gsxr6 till 120mph, and thats quicker than its supposed to be on paper....so hoping for good results.

we went from a high rpm first gear roll and let her go till about 120 mph..

3 times, same exact results...ok...guess what and by how many lengths....:)

    guesses???

Stonking great motor in the FJR although they only have 5 gears to the VFR's 6 it is an interesting question knowing the VFR will eat it in the twisties but acceleration to 120 h'mmm I'm guessing FJR by 1 to 10 ?

Hmm very interesting, just did a Google search on this as I haven't a clue, first off thoughts had me guessing VFR stomped on it, boy do I fele like a dork, read the 03 FJR was turning mid 10.6 wores I saw was an 11.02 to the VFR 800s 11.2 give or take a couple thousandth. Now yours was geared, so maybe you turned an 11.0 but unless the FJR pilot was a tool sack looks like he'd jump on you. I say you got em out of the whole, but by the end he got you by 1 bike length?

Depends while not bad for fat barges have found FJR's easy to get away from in the very tight twisties, open twisties is a closer call.

handling?..yep There are days my old 82 900f honda will "out handle" guys on vfr's....Doubt its the driver, must be the bike..:)

remember..not comparing bikes here, totally diff creatures. They dont really compare ....just a simple drag !

as for the drag race...I won!! (both mine)

(first..my 00 vfr is a decent runner.. bit quicker than my 05, and even with the kids 06 gsxr600 up to 120 when geared down..tonite it wasnt)

So I was kinda surprised..thought it would be a fair bit closer..I know all bout the 1/2 second mag tests, and expected blue to slowly pull away and maybe be 8 or so at the 1/4..but wow..the big thing was 10+ lengths out and gone by the middle of 2nd gear and twice that when we quit.. .not even close!!....and we switched drivers and same results...big hp does work! BTW, it does the same thing to my friends st1300...

Lets put it this way..dont make fun of some touring guy with full a load on one of these. You will only get by on a straightaway if he wants you to...:)

Does it matter? nope., just a fun evening is all....I still will sell the fjr this fall once done using it for what it does so well..(2 up trips).. and keep the vfr for my solo riding. BTW, there is no shortage of bikes out there that will still blow my vfr away, and I still like it..:) weird eh?

True, ride occasionally with a couple of guys on an R1 & 600RR and neither of them keep with me in the tight twisties either mind a lot of the VFR guys I often ride with are quicker so not always the bike then...

Not dissing the FJR as quite like their sporty distance bike bias and great engine, was just thinking back to last year when following a FJR over many back miles as like VFRs and BMers they get out to the sticks a bit just that they look harder work flopping side to side through the tight mountain range switchbacks than a VFR does....

Yes its large! funny thing is once its moving it really is just as easy as the vfr in the corners, very surprising....but oh boy!! Its a handfull puttin around the driveway and moving it in the garage! I hate that part..thing is just too heavy..And this is not the heaviest out there! I can't imagine enjoying the bigger heavier bikes at all!! I'm on the edge with this one..can't see why anyone would want the size and weight for solo riding...
I like the power, but what a treat it is to get back on my vfr...:)

haha i didn't want to be a jerk and say you were going to get horribly stomped but since it already happened.

the FJR is extremely fast, even the old ones ;)

i had a 84 1100 and it was very fast. about the same as the new ones high 10s

the old ones had less power but were a lot smaller

VFR's are not fast in a straight line, just a bit faster than my SV650. The VFR will absolutely spank the FJR bike in the twisties if you can ride. My TLR makes the VFR look like a kids toy but as far handling goes the VFR is pretty fantastic considering how heavy it is. I had no idea just how heavy a VFR is before I got one but the overall package makes up for it.

Not weird at all - it's what YOU prefer in a bike that's important...I just traded my '04 CBR1KRR for a new '07 VFR..and yes the CBR would stomp the VFR in pretty much every catagory - except comfort and longer trip capabilities - that's what's important to me now and the VFR is one of the best bikes to combine good solid sporty handling with longer distance capability. I do miss the acceleration of the CBR a bit but am really enjoying being back on the VFR:smile:

I think the FJR is a really nice bike and even considered getting one more than once. I don't think I'd want the leap in insurance, though. Also, I ride with a couple guys who have FJRs and they have no troubles in the twisties. They can keep up if they feel like it, it justs works them a bit more.

jeeszz I love this one...vfr just faster than a sv650??? hahaaa..

Your credibility out the window with that comment Wesley.

put it right up there with the "run away" ones..

BTW , it is a nice bike , a bike for another class and purpose.
    Love to drag em all!!

Having both those bikes in my garage I tend to agree with that comment. The 2nd gen SV650S is just a tad slower than the 6th gen VFR in the twisties.

and I did have a older fjr1200, red/white one....Never drove it tho, bought it in jan ,fixed the 2nd gear , sold it in Feb..wish i coulda tried it out! Bet it was a fun bike! Fit me good.

Just curious did you try a drag off the mark or just rolling at high first ?

Reason is have read the VFR timed in mags at 3.29 seconds to 60 mph ( lowest ) but a few at 3.5 which is probably very close to the FJR.
