awright tarmac, you should fit right in here--i like to give her a go every chance i get too.

i wish we could get those bikes over here, what a sweet ride.

As you know the gears will only go back together one way, but the shift forks alignment is the barney. Do you have the R,C, and L marks on the forks facing towards the right side?

You might try putting the shift drum and shift forks into the housing, then connect up the shifter lever and go thru the gear positions--do a dry run and watch how the forks are moving, e.g. for 1st gear the R fork moves to the right (yes as you are sitting on it facing forward is the convention), for 2nd gear the R fork moves back toward the center and the L fork moves left, for 3rd gear the L fork moves back toward the center and the C fork moves left, etc... i don't have the nc30 manual so this may not be exactly the same, but if you have extra parts you can do some bench-shifting to puzzle out the sequence. Is the shift drum lined up to Neutral when you are doing the assembly and all the shift forks are in the Neutral position, i.e. the main Neutral between 1st and 2nd?

i was able to find the factory service manual online and the fork and gears align the same way as the bigger bikes. Look for an nc30 zip file on the carl salter website if you don't already have The Knowledge. The assembly sequence of the main and countershafts were described in detail including align the thrust washers and snap rings with the chamfered edge toward the thrust load side.

Might the problem be in the gearshift linkage assembly? The manual indicates to install the shifter plate assembly "on the shifter drum center with the drum center positioned in any gear stop except neutral". When you get it puzzled out let us know the secret formula.
