Take care when the bike is on the center stand as you won't want to pull it over.

The ring spanner in the Honda tool kit should normally be enough to free the adjuster - but if it has not been moved for months then it may be an idea to use a longer, good quality ring spanner on this occasion as it will allow you a bit more leverage. Just remember to use the standard (shorter) spanner when you need to tighten the adjuster back up as you definitely don't want to overtighten it or have a spanner slip and round off the edges.

If the adjuster is crazy tight, then the trick is to put bike on centre stand, then sit on the floor beside the bike, then make sure a suitable ring spanner is fitted snugly to the adjuster, then take a very firm hold of the bike with both hands on the rear peg, whilst using your foot to push the spanner away from you. Don't go mad - just apply progressively more force to the spanner until it starts to move, as you will have a firm hold of the rear peg you should be able to steady the bike even if it does free off quite suddenly. Once it starts to move then simply back the nut off enough by hand to allow you to adjust the chain tension. Simples...

l then as I posted this morning I could not adjust the the chain,so I set about to see what the problem is ,first took rear wheel off. Sprayed the large toothed adjuster nut and the rear disc brake hanger with wd40.
then loosened the pinch nut a good few turns pushed a flat head screwdriver in the gap to open the jaws a bit, then tryed to adjust by using the wrench supplied but with no success it would not budge, so I unscrewed the bolt holding the brake arm to the swinging arm to see if the whole unit with the sprocket and caliper unit would move, which it did which ment that the disc brake hanger was seized on the shaft, all I had to do was use more wd40 spray on the hanger tighten up pinch nut to hold it solid and using a plastic faced hammer tap the caliper body on the left then tap on the right to free it up just a few taps back and forward to free it up .unscrewed the pinch bolt screwed the bolt in the brake arm back then used the supplied adjusting*spanner to adjust the chain which warked perfectly. Thank goodness
I will post some photos latter.hope this helps others so you dont need to strip the whole unit down

Its fun to bop stuff with hammers is'nt it? Been to Wales nice place, sailed on a ferry to Ireland. Sat next to a sailor drinking Guinness who told me never to get married, and most of all, not to have children. I so far am 1 for 1...wish me luck...he seemed like a worldy sod though...

So, it was your floating pinch bolt that got some crap on it, good to grease stuff like that when your riding in shite weather. Thats why you need a winter bike and lay up the viffer for sunnier days.
