VFR engine interchanging / swapping

Hi there. My 86 vfr 750 was recently stolen. I have a spare motor from a another one - are the cranks interchangeable, gear sets, etc? Cos im looking @ non running ones around my area and wondering if the parts i have would be of use? Im concerned primarily about the engine parts since they costs the most and are hard to come by.. I have a swing arm, starter, coils, carbs and a whole crate full of spares.
