I'm hearing rumors that the VFR800 shock will fit on the 86 VFR700? Can anyone confirm whether this is true or not, and if so how much work is involved, or is it a direct bolt in? I know the 800 shock is longer than the 700, but will it fit otherwise? I appreciate any information. Thanks.

I have been looking to do the swingarm swop onto my VFR 700F and found that it can be done with quite a bit of frame modification. It looks not too easy but dreams can come true. Follow the link below and you may find the photos interesting. I have bought the swing arm and wheel off Ebay so am ready to give it a go when winter and snow are with me.
    Regards,
    John

Hi John. I had the same thought many years ago and like you bought the swing arm and wheel off ebay for a 2000 VFR 800. I had the same dream and saw the pics from the link you posted. I ended up buying the rest of the VFR 800 piece by piece on ebay over a period of 6 years. I had to buy all the nuts and bolts to put it together from Bike Bandit. It was not a cost effective exercise to do this. My 86 700 is still the same and if I had any notions would do a rear wheel swop only. There is info to do this on VFR Wolrld. Remember that your bike might not handle the same once you change the swing arm, wheel and shock. Looks like a bit of a hack job from the pictures. Don't forget that the brake master cylinder, caliper, disk etc would also need to be installed. Did you get the hub for the swing arm and wheel shaft with the swing arm ? Yes, this has been done. Would I do it - no. Not many would have the expertise.
