Is this a '94-'97 model you are talking about? I recently took my exhaust mid section off to fix it and these were my experiences. Remove the centerstand, muffler and rearset. You will need a long extension (preferably flexible) to get to the rear joint. Be careful the nuts don't pick up on the threads when you loosen them, though I don't know how you can avoid that so just hope for the best. It happened to me and I had to clean the studs up with a dremel and die nut (not easy considering their location). Also loosen the headers at the front or they won't come out of the mid section, and when refitting don't tighten the back until the fronts are in properly. All in all it's quite a bitch of a job, but entirely doable.
