Hey guys, I got bored with my '88 VTR250 and decided that it's time to move up to its bigger brother. There's someone selling a VFR 750 and I was just wondering what you guys thought about its price and if there's any usual problems that I should look out for.

    1996 VFR 750
    40k miles
"Runs great" (I haven't seen it or ridden it yet)
    Has a clean title
Some aftermarket mods (as seen in pics)

Owner is asking $1700 OBO. What do you guys think is a good price to agree on?

Seems like a fair price to me assuming there are no major issues. All pre 6th Gen VFRS (manufactured before 2002) have had known electrical issues. There is plenty of info available by searching the site for R/R (regulator/rectifier) related posts. Also be warned that parts for a bike that age will be fairly difficult to find for a reasonable price. FYI....That bike has a 6th Gen exhaust so there was some fair amount of modding to get that configured.

    Rollin,

I saw some previous posts on this forum mentioning the R/R problems. Sounds like I just need to bring a voltometer with me to check whether it's working or not....or just ride it around for a while and see if it dies at a stop, lol.

I had noticed the dual undertail exhaust and knew it was not a feature on the 3rd gen VFR's. How crazy was it for them to do the swap? Is there anything that could possibly present a problem from it?

Also I see you live in Duluth...I'm actually in Lawrenceville/Lilburn. Small world, huh?

Looks pretty cool with the Gen 6 tail on it. Seems like a good deal. The RR issues and other electrical issues in the VFR's are not something you would'nt expect from other bikes the same age. ...OK, maybe Viffers are a bit more problem children, but they are well worth the work.

Yeah, everything I've read about the bike is praise (except for the R/R) and the undertail exhaust is pretty BA. I'm just a bit worried about 40k miles. I know people are going to say "Bah, 40k isn't high, there are some that have over 100k", but are there any engine parts that start to wear out and need replacement around then?
