How much is a NC30 VFR 400 worth? The bike in question has 7,000 miles. There are some cracks in fairing, & shield from 0 mph drop.
That cannot be "accurately" answered without seeing it in person, or even a ballpark number be given without you providing more info, as in maintenance record, how well it was cared for, how it was stored, title history, any accidents (other than you mentioned) pictures, etc, etc... As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it depends on the buyer and what they think it is worth. Good luck.
Since VFR400's were never sold in the U.S., their value is really based upon what you personally feel they are worth. for instance, my RVF400 is worth $12,000- to me. I probably wouldn't get $6,500 on ebay for it though. Here are the biggest things to look for: 1:A Valid state title for the bike. 2verall condition- parts have to come from Japan or the U.K. so anything you have to fix is going to cost you. to read up on the VFR400 click this link and read up: 400greybike.info - View forum - V4 Section Tell me more about the condition, and how it runs and I'll try to give you some advice as much as I can.
VFR 400 additional info: Model year: 1992 All the original parts, except the exhaust (scorpion), also missing passenger seat pad. Engine runs good. Needs tires (old, & cracked) The original paint looks very good in the photos. Unregistered in the U.S., owner has the papers from the original sale in Germany, this bike was imported by an American serviceman. I would not be able to register this bike in Ca. without possibly registering out of state with a relative, & riding an additional 500 miles to meet Ca. required min 7500 miles to transfer an out of state vehicle to Cal. There might be more hoops than this than I am unaware of ? This is California after all. Asking price:$2,900.00
I will be more then willing to provide a great home for a VFR 400 if someone can not provide the proper care for it.
If it does not have a title for the street then you are taking a gamble. if you buy the bike, try to register it in ANY state and they find out the bike does not have DOT/NHTSA (that would be federal not state level) they can sieze the bike and destroy it. The rules are pretty clear that the bike must be modified, tested, and inspected at time of entry(importation) into the U.S. I spent 6500 to get my RVF400 legal when I brought it back in '05. It is a lot of money for a 1995, but I have yet to ride a bike that teaches me so much andnis so much fun each time I ride it. You might get lucky going the route you suggest, but it clearly a gamble if you do. If you are looking for a track bike though- Buy it! you will learn so much about why more power does not always mean faster.
2900 isn't a bad price if it is solid. tires and similar items won't be of concern, especially since he hasn't been riding it much. but as for the photo's I wouldn't count on the condition- it doesn't look recent.
I'm probably going to take a pass. I ran into enough road bocks with the Ca. DMV just trying to register an 49 state FJR from Arizona. If anyone is interested it is on L.A. Craigs list. search VFR
Man, that sure does look pretty though. As was mentioned, I am sure it would be a hassle to register.
The problem with CA DMV is that none of the employees know their jobs well enough. Some know how to handle certain situations and not others. The knowledge base isn't level throughout the organization. some know how to handle only registration renewals. I myself ran into problems when I registered my RVF400, but when I did talk to someone who knew what they were doing she said the other person was wrong and had me cleared up and going in 10 minutes.
