Is there anyway to up gun a 85 VF750F to take on my buddies R6 in a straight line? I know he's got less weight and more power but there must be something I can do besides upgrading bikes. I want to surprise him with the "old tech out of date" bike ( his words....bastard)

wow. that s a big ask....you havent mentioned what year his R6 is?

if its a mid ninties model, then maybe if your gen one looked like freddies one down below:

RS 860cc engine with full HRC top end, works suspension, frame. This bike was an absolute rocketship........in 1984.

your path would be to reduce wieght massively and increase HP massively-
rebore, hot cams, bigger better exhaust and at end of the day and with a lot of $$$ spent you might just make it, but is it worth it?
it would be cheaper to buy an older model R1(say 98 0n) and wave goodbye to him on that. i love the gen 1, its old skool cool and best left that way IMHO.

How about a nitrous system for easy cheap power?
I had a kit on my '69 Cougar and it worked quite well...just don't get greedy with the jetting, and make sure you have enough fuel pressure and it's all good!

-Or you could just loosen his chain so it slips and skips???
I also remember reading somewhere that if you put slick 50 in his bike, his clutch will slip!!

Didn't Mythbusters try something like that? LOL

To see the look on his face would be worth it but I probably would be better off then with just a bigger bike. Would like to still use a Honda though.
I was wondering how the race bikes lost so much weight (around 90lbs I think I read) What about a VFR750R? or are they not that common.

Yep an RC 30 would definately deal to an R6.

price wise about $20,000 if you could find one...

They are the ducks nuts tho! Not bad for 1987 ay!

Keep in mind that the mighty RC30 with legend Helmut Dahne still holds the fastest lap time for motorcycles at Nurburgring (aka the Green Hell) bar NONE! And I am talking, MV Agusta's 312R, R1s, RSV1000s, and even racing bikes!
And better yet? It was done on a STOCK RC30 with road tyres!!!

So yeah, I would say that the RC30 could deal with an R6! Take a look at the video and watch the spanking received by other riders on that day!

All hail the The King Of Nurburgring:

YouTube - Honda RC30 HELMUT DAHNE Nurburgring Lap 7.49,71 (1993)

Oh my, yea what year R6? anything made in the last few years .. well will spank after it gets it Rs. You'll have no problem down low but man that's a tall order. If you know how to ride and he does not then there's another edge you'll have, but you say straight line, you'll get the hole shot, could maybe even take him in the 100 yard or 1/8 mile but once the 6 is in the zone they fly. or here's one do a 4th or 5th gear roll on, you should be able take that on. anything that keeps his Rs down will help big time.

Honestly, just practice your launches. The R6's have absolutely no bottom or midrange at all, that's why the CBR600RR's are such a better street bike. If he can't launch it then you should be able to spank him up to about 60-70mph. Just shut it down at that point and say that you gave up because you thought he broke something. That usually gets 'those guys' ticked off enough.

Too many people believe what they read in maganzines. Sure, those 600's are fast around a track when they are within 10% of the redline the whoile time. The R6's are awful on the street, no motor what so ever. If they guy screws up his launch it will take him forever to recover. The V4's are pretty easy to launch and you can just twist the throttle all the way without a worry about wheelies or anything weird. Once the R6 stretches it's legs it will scream, just don't try to play that game and you'll be ok.

    That's why I went -1, +2 with my F4i! :cheersaf:

Be careful beating on your bike Darkhorse, 2nd gear has a habit of breaking under hard launches on the VF's... ask me how I know.

$26,000? Hmm just need to sell myself to 260 fat chicks for $100 a pop, or to 26 REALLY fat chicks for $1000 a pop.
    What?
    Fat chicks need love too

    but they gotta pay.

Maybe I'll just ask for a raise at work.

I say you got the R6 friend beat already without even starting the motor up...in style alone!
Dont mind him being so shallow as he will never be able to get over his 'dime a dozen' status while parked next to you.

having ridden both, the VFR makes between 10 and 20 ft/lbs more than the R6 at almost the entire rev band, the key will be to catch the R6 rider in the wrong gear and keep him there. moving to -1 +2 (or 3) would really solve it, but doubt in a sustainable way, once the R6 moves to 12000+ rpm, shows over on paper, but I can tell you a well ridden anything will beat a poorly ridden anything - every day.

get rider skills, take em to the track...
