hello fellow vf'ers. so i pulled the carbs on my 1985 vf700f after having this high speed bogg problem on the freeway for a good sync and clean, and i have this little tube near the base of the carb that is capped. only two of the four were capped, assuming the others are supposed to be capped as well. i looked through the service manual, but did not see anything pointing to what this is, so maybe some of you vf guru's can help me out. aside from that, one of the air joint pipes between the carbs was clogged, perhaps the cause of the high speed bog? well see. also noticed a while back that one of my coil packs had a crack across it, but the bike had been running good at the time, so i kinda let it be. ive seen someone around here replace these with what looked like aftermarket ones (yellow colored i think). i have no problem getting nos ones, just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. its nice to see this forum still active, these bike deserve the loyal riders on this site. thanks in advance for any input!!

That's carb for #2 cylinder correct? On mine there is no hole there. Either yours are different carbs or someone drilled that out to clean a clogged circuit?

My coils were split in the exact same place. I put a bead of jb weld over it. Just to keep moisture and such out. I think mine got split while trying to remove the rear valve cover with the coils in place. The lacking service manual does not mention removing them to get the cover off and it looks like you can, but nope, and I think the result from trying is split coils.

Capped fitting means Cali emissions are on that bike. Other similar fittings must be capped too.

thanks for the replies guys. squirellman was right. the fittings show on the service manual that they are plummed into the purge control vale and charcoal canisters. will be capping the rest as the emissions stuff was removed from the bike. hopefully this resolves my bogging issue. thanks again
