    Hey All!

My VF500F won't start. P/O said they were able to start with starter fluid, but I don't trust that. With the CX500 there was a very straightforward set of troubleshooting steps to trace the issue down.

    1. Starter button firing.
    2. See if spark plugs are sparking by holding against frame
    3. Open float drains to see if gas is getting to carbs
    4. Clean Carbs
My first question is if that is an appropriate order of operations for the VF500F?

Secondly, will it harm the electronic ignition to test for spark by grounding on cylinder head?

Lastly, is skipping the first few and seeing if starter fluid starts it up a good way to go? This would eliminate all electronics issues.

I drained the floats and they all had gas, so I would know that if it isn't the electronics (starter fluid works), then I would just need to rebuild the carbs (likely just cleaning or replacing jets).

Final question, are there any circuits and the carbs to worry about cleaning BESIDES the jets? I know there's a fuel/air mix screw that has a plug covering it, I'm really hoping I can just leave that alone. I'm hoping to just pull the jets out from the bowls and clean them and see if that clears things up.

Turns out the plugs were shot and the kill switch corroded. Cleaned the carbs anyway and they were already pristine.

Note to everybody: hairdryers are your best friends when it comes to carb cleaning
