    vf500f '84/'85 engine carb questions. (come on....help a newb.....)

    here is the deal:

parts bike is a 1984 california emissions setup.

resto bike is a 1985 49 state set up.

engine in 1985 was removed due to corroded carbs and rust in intakes. engine in 1984 runs very good, so i removed it to put into 85 frame. the carb rack is out currently for a complete rebuild. now, here is where i need some opinions.

(constructive opinions as i know the risks with the vf500f's already, so squirrelman, no need to reply in kind, unless you have something to offer that is helpful......LOL)

1st. since the carbs i am using are california type, and 1984. will the jet size difference be an issue?

reference this reply from another thread:

    http://vfrworld.com/forums/1st-2nd-generation-1983-1989/28752-1986-vf500f-main-jet-sizes.html#post238164

2nd. since the engine/carbs are from a 1984 cali bike, should i be using the cdi box for that bike, or will the cdi on the 1985 49 state bike be fine?

any suggestions on these two questions?

I would narrow down your thread title, vf500 carb , I may be wrong but I think the jetting issue is only different with the 86'

For the second question, I have seen nothing else for VF500 but:

    17 deg@1700rpm - for F mark
    37 deg@3300rpm - full advance

If you have a timing gun you can install and check both sets and notice any differences, though few degrees wouldn't be easy to discriminate.
