    Hey there,

Just curious what everyones VF500's are averaging in their fuel economy?

    i.e kms/miles per Tank
    MPG

Also...when you switch to reserve how long have you gone? How many litres/Gallons is accessible by reserve?

I got about 135 miles off almost a full tank and then had to switch to reserve but I never tested my fate and ran on reserve for very long at all

Pretty good...comes up to about 31MPG. What kinda of riding do you do? Cruise at high revs?

Anyone know how at how many Gallons/Liters the reserve is at?

Interested to see what everyone else is getting...I have yet to use a full Tank on my Bike. Filled it up and have only put on about 160kms.

According to the official shop manual, capacity is 4.1 gallons and reserve is 1.1 gallons. I get anywhere from 46 to 48 MPG.

I still need to take my fairing off so I can adjust the idle down. Its at 3k idle so it doesn't sit still very long.

Okay...thanks to the few that have posted...and thanks Stewart for the shop manual info.

I just finished my first Tankful on the Bike. I went to start the bike and while warming up it died...turned the Petcock to RES and the Bike started up fine.

Went to the gas station and filled up. 11.4 Liters (approx 3.05 Gallons)

I went about 160km (approx 100miles) on that first tankfull. If the info Stewart has provided is correct...then I had an extra 4 liters of fuel left.

I did the math and my Fuekl economy comes up to:
    34MPG.
    14km/Litre
So I guess I can probably go another 40kms or so on Reserve.

I've been driving a bit better today...didn't leave it in too low a gear when cruising...only came close to redline once or twice.

    Anyway...that's my :blah: rant.

The mileage you guys are posting here seems terribly low. Even my 750 and 800 get in the low to mid 40s.

My '83 750 gets 36mpg around town, back and forth to work.

Driving habbits are probably a big factor. A friend of mine has a VFR750 and he says it gets worse Mileage then his mazdaspeed Protege.

Also...it's been pretty cold lately here...so I assume that with the warmer weather the mileage will get much better.

Well...my Tire pressure was at 25psi

I work at a car dealership and they decided to fill my tires with Nitrogen for free. Put them at 32psi. That should make things rougher on the road but my mileage should go up.

LOL...I know what you mean. I just finished another tank and I got 38MPG this time. all city. With some smarter driving...warmer weather and a lower idle I'm sure I can fair much better.

In comparison my Daily Driver Grand Am GT gets 24MPG on a very good day with 90% highway.

I get 50 mpg w/ my 700 riding like a little old lady to church; worse is 35 mpg & that w/ extended speeds in the triple digits & corner carving. It has dropped some since going up 2 teeth on the back sprocket but not much.

That's more like it. I failed to mention that my commute is 95% highway speeds and almost no stop and go. That is why I can reach mid to upper 40s.

It depends. If I'm babying it I can get 45 or so.
Recently, however, I've been getting a lot closer to 32-35.

The only riding I've done thus far has been going out and taking some twisty roads running between 7-9k rpm for extended periods.

When I start commuting this summer the numbers get a lot better.

Yea...I've adjusted my idle to a more reasonable speed and my tires are inflated properly. I'll see how this next tank works out.

    VF500 Gas mileage

hi, I've just bought an '84 VF500 and currently have 235km since I filled up first time...not on reserve yet.
seems like I should be able to get close to 300km on a full tank (including using the reserve, but I'm not going to push my luck on reserve)
    cheers.

Yeah, I agree that the mileage stated is VERY low. The 500's should get 50mpg even when ridden hard. The 1000's get 40-45mpg! Anything under 50mpg on a 500 means that something is wrong.

Also, 32psi is race track pressures. Try more like 40-42psi. In fact, it should say on the sidewall what the pressure should be. Sometimes they state this as a "max pressure" but in fact that's what you should run.

I've gotten about 160 miles out of my last two tanks although I have been riding the 500 pretty hard. On average I get about 40 MPG...
