Hi, I am overhauling my '86 VF500F2 forks. The Red paint on the lower legs is a bit rough and appears to be a satin finish, is this correct or was it a gloss finish and mine has faded after 35 odd years? I am going to clean them up and repaint them, so is it base colour and clear coat, or just base colour? Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.
    Peter

They are gloss originally. I don't believe they were clear coated but that doesn't mean you couldn't for some extra protection.

Also, they might look on the orange side now, but they were more red when new.

This was my '86 500 rebuild. The forks were glossy. The fork legs still had the assemblers name on the inside of each fork. Sakai. I am assuming that was the name, but it could anything I suppose.
