Lately there has been discussion on the VF400F. I'm wondering if you owners or previous owners ran into the valve train problems that showed up on the vf500f. I know that the VTR250 Interceptor shared valve parts with the 500 and suffered the same fate. Curious if the VF400F also saw failures like dropped valves, dished rockers and pitted cams.

I guess there were much fewer of that model so might not encounter someone on this forum who had had a failure but would be interested to hear.

Not interested in anecdotal stories about oiling issues. read all those. I am more interested in parts differences, cam profiles, etc.

I had a VF400 from new in 1984 and by then the paranoia arising from the issues with the 750 had infected all the VF range. As far as I can remember there were a few cases of pitted cam lobes with the 400 and I purchased the special tool Honda recommended at the time to make sure the camshafts were pulled into the camshaft cap bearing. I only had the bike a year so I didn't see any problems. They sold very few in the UK. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Anything still running is going to have plenty of other issues anyway. Getting parts for the 500 is tough enough so the 400 must be almost impossible. IMO the 500 is miles better than the 400 anyway.
