My 1983 VF400F is *finally* back from the menders, new engine and all (pics to follow).

It needed new tyres so while the wheels were off I decided to give the brakes a fettle - new braided hoses, new pads, new seals and a good clean. The usual stuff.

Here's a pic of the front hub:

And here's the hub & caliper:

After much aggro trying to get it all back together, I had a eureka moment: make sure the correct brake caliper goes on the correct wheel. Doh!

The pic above looks OK until you try and get the disc and calipers back in place. The wrong caliper won't shove on far enough. A better solution than whacking it with a 'persuader' is to use the correct caliper!

As a rule, I think Hondas are *on the whole* so well designed/engineered that if something won't go back together you're probably doing it wrong...

Yes we have all done things like that. Some how I managed to put my pistons back in the
calipers backwards! I was wondering why they wouldn't bleed properly. Looking forward to
    more pics.

I owned two of these back in the day. Great bikes! I wound my first one through to "made in Japan" on the speedo on a long downhill, my GPz900 riding mate reckoned we hit 210km/hr which is not bad going for a 400!

Yup, big, heavy, ugly suckers. Scrub up OK with a bit of wet 'n' dry though.

Tis my fave bike in the world, ever. I kid you not. It all stems from walking past one in a dealer's window in '83 when they launched. I was 16 and instantly smitten.

The one I own is to scratch a 30 year itch. I only passed my bike test 2 years ago so I can ride the little beastie ;-)

Since the rotor is free to move a little left-to-right, it's actually a floating rotor i believe. Them bitches are very prone to rusting the surface.
