    So a while back I bought another 84 VF1000RE.

My only excuse is it looked lonely and needed rescuing.
Needs a bunch of work of course. But has an interesting 4:2:1 exhaust and has a new lithium iron battery in it.

    Main jobs to be done;
New steering stem bearings, - done
Sort out why engine will not idle - races, then dies
Replace hacked up wiring harness with fully restored used one - mostly complete
    sort out charging system
replace fuel filter, pump and relay,
replace all the non standard fasteners with correct ones
replace both radiators with a really nice set from ebay Japan.
Replace tyres with new avon azaro ST radials
    flush engine with rust remover
Probably replace the fairly worn disks with nicer ones
rebuild starter motor while bike is apart
    Adjust valve clearances
maybe carb rebuild or just replace them with my rebuilt euro ones
    etc
    etc

    How it looked originally;

    Now looks like this'

Clutch slave cylinder and piston were pretty manky.

Nice find good to see them get back on the road the right way.
I found one with zero, that's right zero miles on it a few weeks back. Couldn't buy it though.

Yep. they even have a NSR750 oval piston bike. Notice how they support the bikes?

I think the NR is one of the most perfect looking bikes ever made.

Is that including the tailpiece that looks like an overloaded diaper with vent holes?

    I'm sorry, I just don't see that.
I see a bike I would sleep with if the opportunity arose.

Looks like fun. I'm still staring at my 3 R projects with no progress. Maybe this will help.

Continued taking the electrics off tonight. Every connector block has significant corrosion on all the contacts.
The fuse for indicators and horn showed heat damage to the fuse socket. Not surprising really.
Just discovered pool of brake fluid under the middle of bike. So rear master cylinder is coming off and being replaced with one which doesn't leak.

If your fuse pannel is bad let me know, I think I have a good one. Just pay shipping from Ohio USA.

Thanks for the kind offer Grey.
Fortunately I have a couple of spares as well from a fleabay Japan seller a year or so ago who must have parted out a pristine 1000r. All the parts, including the electrical parts, looked new.
Only killer with Japan is the price of ems shipping.

Finally spent a bit of time on this bike.
Stripped out the leaking rear brake master cylinder, removed it and the rear caliper. I'm fairly sure I have already refurbished spares in the brake parts box.
Looks like the rear disk is almost at minimum thickness so the rear wheel will have to come off to replace it with a better one.
I'm sure that will lead to the discovery of more jobs. What is it that most old bikes seem to have been maintained by torque hammer owners?

I have separate tools, hammers and torque wrenches, not a combined tool like yours.

My new parts bike for spares for the 2 RE's.
An 84 VF1000FE with a minor engine problem.
Has a good water pump, new battery, useable forks, some of the other electrical parts and assorted salvage.
I'm hoping for a decent set of rocker arms.
The bike came with a lower fairing to make it look like a 1000R, and fairly well made too.

Water pump coming off the parts 1000F to replace the one on the RE with a broken XXXXXXing bolt stuck in it.
Broke two screw/bolt removers trying to get the frozen bolt remnant out.

How's it coming along? This is a bike I've always liked. Was interested in seeing your progress.
