Has anyone here looked at the differences/similarities between the 85/86 1000R crank cases and the 85/86 1000F cases?
I have NOS set of 1000F2 cases and can only find a couple of tiny differences.
Has any one put a late model 1000F engine into a late model 1000R or vise versa?
    Thanks for your time.

I have an F with and R motor in it. It's tight but can be done. The R's heads are wider, that's the tough part. Some small spacer changes but not difficult...that's relative, I know.

What I am looking to do is use the 1000F cases in an 85 1000R, with 1000R heads and internals. I will take some photos of the NOS cases when I get a chance. have NOS 1000R std pistons and rings so a cheap full rebuild would involve these into the 1000F cases (with their NOS liners obviously). Option 2 which is more work would be to remove the liners and put them into the 1000R cases.

Hmmm...that's something to ponder. If I had to guess, I would say the R heads with the cam gear drive system inside might not fit the F's cases. W/O having them both in front of me, my guess is the machining of the F case is different where the crank sits. The R crank is set up to drive the cam gears so it may have a unique space for it. You would certainly need the R's crank. My guess is the R's cam drive system takes up more room than the F's chain. I know the tranny's are slightly different. I tried to swap a good F's into an R and it locked up when I tried to bolt it all down. So you would need an F's transmission? Honda may have used that same case but machined it differently when the R arrived? The cooling passage in the R's head could be different as well and may not line up with the F's block? These are all guesses but something to consider. You never know, you might get lucky. I would be inclined to sleeve the R's case.

I probably missed it but what was wrong with the R's motor?
