I had to replace my start switch assembly ( my headlight wasnt turning on) and now my rear marker lights dont light up when the key is turned on. The signals still work and all the other lights come on but not the rear marker lights I plugged my old switch asembly back in and they still dont turn on ( but now the headlight does....go figure) Any Ideas? Not sure where to start
If you mean what I would call the running lights, those aren't supposed to be used on my bike ('98), though the contact is there on the socket there simply is no wire running to it to supply power. Some folks install a new wire to light them up considering that the charging system is the bike's weak point, I'm not doing it unless I've reduced the overall load (say by replacing the front running lights with LED's if possible). Hopefully you've discovered a non-issue. Luck.
Did you try cleaning all the contacts in the switch? Check all the connectors too, those bullet connectors get dirty and loose over time.
I guess there's only 2 wires going to the rear lights. One is ground (duh) and the other comes off the front marker but only has power when the signals are on. I guess this is the way its supposed to be ( I never noticed if the lights were on at night). I did check the plugs and they seem tight and clean. So it must just be me being a noobie.
