Hello all, I'll probably be selling my little 84 VF 500 or parting it out depending on best income recovery potential. Advice? I had Tori listen to it as he is more mechanically inclined than I. His conclusing is that the rattle I have is a rod knocking and the cost to bring back to good riding shape is more than it's worth. You have seen the pics in my gallery. The bike starts easily every time. I have ridden it here and there. It has a newly recovered seat, working signals, freshly rebuilt clutch slave cylinder. I think the headlight is out. It has some type of cycle alarm on it but I don't know if it works. I just put a new taillight on it. The frame is straight. The body is mediocre, and it could use paint. It is current on title and registration in CA. My other option is does anyone out there know of a bargain VF 500 engine? I really like the bike and was planning on fixing it up for my son's first streetbike.

Between selling or parting out you would probably get more money parting it out but also you would have to tear it apart and all that. Either way good luck. Keep me posted if you part it out, I may buy some stuff.

Kinda what I was thinking, too. I'd really like to fix it, but I hate to keep throwin money into a hole. I may just let my son ride it this summer til it dies then part it out. who knows...

The bike I picked up for a parts bike I got from a friend that bought it to part out. He already sold a few parts, enough to make some money so he sold me pretty much the whole bike for $75 only things that are missing are the plastic and seat that he sold and I can't use the front forks because someone backed into it while it was sitting in the driveway. thats why he was parting it out. Bonus is he already disasembled most of the bike so I have a frame with motor and two big boxes of parts. Let me know what you decide to do I may be interested in some parts. I don't think I will ever get rid of mine. I've only got about $800 into it, that include purchase price and parts bike. I bought it from a friend after it had been laid down. he just dumped about $1500 into fixxing it up then dumped it a couple months later. He was done with riding after that.

yeah, if I could find a deal like that, I'd keep it and swap the engine thereby saving me completely dissassembling the engine with no workspace.
