Very silly question.... When i look at micro fiche the gasket has lobes (cam plugs?) on the gasket Whenever i look up the same part number elsewhere like on ebay and CMS those lobes are NOT on the gasket. I'm kinda confused as to what to order. *there was a little leak when i bought the bike that seems to have gone away. I'm afraid to check the valve's without having a set on hand in case things go wrong.
I'm sure a VF500 specialist will pipe up soon (I only owned on for a year when they were new) but IIRC the later years had line-bored cam bearings and so needed the half moons on the gasket to plug the hole where the boring machine was used. The early ones had a flat face gasket. I'd make sure you are looking up parts for the correct year of manufacture. I see on Partzilla that 84 and 85 use the same part, 86 is different.
Thanks Terry. Went home and looked at the bike. Yes, it was a silly question. I can plainly see that it is just the flat gasket. Also the place i'm buying from gives a vin# range. I'll also look at that to double check. Gaskets are coming from Japan so I was a little worried.
